EUGENE, Ore.- Savannah State sophomore
Amara Jones had her track season come to a close as she competed in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Hayward Field.
The Freeport, Grand Bahamas native had a time of 54.89 in which she placed sixth in her heat and 22nd overall.
Jones competed in the women's 400m race but did not advance to the finals.
“I know that I worked hard. We worked hard. Blood, sweat and tears got us to the championships. It was a wonderful experience and it just awakened a bigger hunger in me to keep getting to the next level.”
“Great season,” said SSU head track & field coach
Ted Whitaker. “Her times were maybe a year ahead of schedule but She is a hard worker. She has set a new standard for our women's program,” he added.
