DES MOINES, Iowa (June 28, 2010) – North Central College was represented at the 2010 USA Track & Field Outdoor National Championships over the weekend, as Jake Winder and Thomas Stacey competed in the senior and junior pole vault events, respectively, at Drake Stadium.

Winder competed in Friday's senior pole vault championship, which featured an opening height of 17 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Winder, who owns a personal best of 18'0 1/2", was among eight competitors in the 17-man field who were unable to clear the opening bar. Mark Hollis won the national championship with a clearance of 18'4 1/2".

Stacey competed in the junior nationals on Thursday, clearing 15'9" and 16'0 3/4" each on his second attempt before bowing out of the competition, placing 10th overall. Kyle Ballew won the event with a clearance of 16'8 3/4".

Winder was making his second appearance at a USATF Championship, having also competed at the 2009 Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass.

Winder recently completed his collegiate career at North Central as a three-time NCAA Division III National Champion, winning both the indoor and outdoor national titles this season. Stacey was the third-place finisher at both the indoor and outdoor championships as a freshman this year, earning All-America honors at both venues.
