NEW ORLEANS - College of Charleston rising junior
Emily Smith (Rock Hill, S.C.) was recently named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Team.
Smith, the school-record holder in the high jump, holds a 3.567 overall grade-point average as a pre-business administration hospitality and tourism management major at The College. She earned an impressive 3.925 GPA in the spring term.
The former Southern Conference Indoor Freshman of the Year, closed out her sophomore campaign as the second-ever CofC athlete to qualify for NCAA Regionals in back-to-back seasons. Smith tied for 25th in the high jump at the NCAA Track & Field Eastern Preliminary Round held this past May in Greensboro, N.C.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
Cougars Earn All-Academic Team Status...In addition to individual academic honors, the entire College of Charleston women's track and field team were among 151 Division I institutions to be honored for their classroom accomplishments on the 2010 USTFCCCA Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team. The Cougars combined for a 3.04 overall team GPA under head coach Amy Seago.
