HPU women's track & field earns All-Academic honor

The High Point University women's track & field team was named a 2010 Division I All-Academic team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The team earned a 3.26 cumulative grade-point average and had two athletes achieve a 4.0 GPA last fall.

"This is something our team takes great pride in," said HPU head coach Mike Esposito. "It's one of the team goals we set at the beginning of the year: to win the conference championship and to be named All-Academic as a team."

Sophomore high jumper Christina Fenske and freshman middle distance runner Kelsey Paine were honored by HPU president Dr. Nido Qubein in March for earning a 4.0 GPA in one of the previous two semesters. Fenske set the HPU record in the high jump this spring, clearing 5-10.

In all, 14 members of the women's track & field team were honored as Millis Scholar-Athletes for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher in one of the previous two semesters. HPU honored 192 student-athletes, Panther Spirit members and athletic training students as Millis Scholar-Athletes during the men's basketball team's game against Coastal Carolina on Feb. 11.
