Women's Track Brings In Strong Recruiting Class

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's track and field team has added 21 athletes to the roster for the 2010-11 track and field season as the Big Red seeks to claim its second straight Outdoor Heptagonal Championship and ninth in the past 10 years.

Among the newcomers are five previous state high school champions, while 14 states and one Canadian province are represented by the incoming athletes. New York leads the way with five athletes, including Ithaca High School star sprinter Ebolutalese Airewele. Texas, Pennsylvania and California each have a pair of athletes, while Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Oregon, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin are each represented by one student. Also joining the program is a native of Ontario, Leanne Fernandes.


MEET THE NEWCOMERS
Ebolutalese Airewele – Ithaca, NY – College of Arts and Sciences
A sprint star at Ithaca High, O.T has recorded bests of 12.21 for 100 meters and 25.41 at 200 meters.  She is a New York state qualifier and Section 4 sprint champion.

Jennifer Bush – Pearland, TX – College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
One of Texas' all-around excellent jumpers, Jennifer enters Cornell with bests of 5-6 in the high jump, 38-6 in the triple jump and 18-1 at the long jump all recorded at Pearland HS.

Dorehn Coleman – Clarksville, MD – College of Arts and Sciences
An excellent long sprinter Dorehn is a Maryland state champion at 300 meters and has recorded bests of 12.29 – 100 meters, 25.23 – 200 meters and 57.24 – 400 meters

Dominique Corley – Ann Arbor, MI – College of Arts and Sciences
An excellent jump talent from famed Ann Arbor Pioneer HS in Michigan, Dominique won the Michigan indoor state meet in the long jump and has a best of 18-5.  She also excels in the high jump with a best of 5-6 and is an excellent hurdler.

Shannon Daniels – Pipersville, PA – College of Arts and Sciences
A Pennsylvania state scorer Shannon is an excellent long jumper at 18-3 and ran 7.86 at 60 meters in her state tourney.  During her senior year she concentrated at perfecting her hurdle skills.

Zaakirah Daniels – West Hills, CA – College of Human Ecology
A Harvard-Westlake grad, Zaakirah recorded some of California's top hurdle times hitting 14.59 for 100 hurdles and 44.67 for 300 hurdles.  She was a triple league champion.

Leanne Fernandes – Toronto, Ontario – College of Arts and Sciences
Leanne is one of Ontario, and Canada's, best 800 runners, boasting a personal best of 2:12.06.

Dale Kinney – Morristown, NJ/College of Human Ecology
With personal bests of 5:06 for 1600 and 11:11 for 3200, Dale was one of New Jersey's best distance runners in track and cross country.

Lauren Lloyd – Mt. Hood, OR/College of Arts and Sciences
The 2010 Oregon state 800 meter champion, Lauren has PRs of 2:10 for 800 and 4:39 for 1500 and is one of the best middle distance runners in the Pacific Northwest

Devin McMahon – Redmond, WA – College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
One of Washington's best cross country and distance runners throughout her high school career, Devin has run 10:43.55 for 3200 on the track.

Samantha Olyha – Poughkeepsie, NY – College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
The New York state Section 1 champion in the pentathlon, Samantha recorded a personal best 2809 during her senior season.

Rebecca Parascandola – Londonderry, NH – College of Human Ecology
A many time New Hampshire state champion and hurdle record-holder, Becca enters Cornell with best marks of 5-5 in the high jump, 14.48 for 100 meter hurdles and 4486 as her state heptathlon champion.

Anjelique Parnell – Elmsford, NY – College of Industrial and Labor Relations
A graduate of the Hackley School Anjelique is a most decorated athlete winning several section crowns and Ivy League prep titles.  She is one of the nation's top long jumpers with a best of 18-11 and has great speed having run 100 meters at 12.19.

Kelley Roach –  Houston, TX – College of Engineering
An excellent triple jump talent from Cypress Creek HS, Kelley has a best mark of 37-0.

Emily Shearer – Acalanes, CA/College of Arts and Sciences
A California state finalist in the 1600, Emily has run 4:55.98 and is a very good cross country runner.

Sarah Sherman – Essex Junction, VT – College of Human Ecology
Vermont's Gatorade athlete of the year and state indoor record-holder in the high jump, Sarah enters Cornell with a best of 5-6 in the high jump. 

Andrea Sielicki – Germantown, WI/College of Arts and Sciences
A 2:16.61 performer for 800 meters, Andrea was among her state's best in the middle distances.

Elizabeth Simpson – Perkiomenville, PA/College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
An all-state performer in both cross country and track, Elizabeth was one of Pennsylvania's best throughout her high school career and has run 10:08 for 3K and 10:45 for 3200.
 
Rachel Sorna – LaGrangeville, NY/College of Engineering
A top 25 finisher at the New York Federation cross country championships, Rachel earned All-American honors in the steeplechase as a senior in track, running 6:56 for the 2K steeple.  She has also run 10:16 for 3K.

Sarah Udelhofen – Glen Ellyn, IL- College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
The state runner-up in the high jump in Illinois, Sarah had an eye-opening senior season. At Glenbard West HS she was a many times conference champion with a best of 5-8.

Meaghan Werle – West Simsbury, CT/College of Arts and Sciences
A 2:14 800 runner, Meaghan is one of Connecticut's best 800 runners.

Ryan Woolley – St. James, NY – College of Arts and Sciences
One of New York's top sprinter-hurdlers, Ryan had a spectacular senior year.  She was a repeat state championship scorer running a personal best 61.39 at 400 meter hurdles.  Her 400 meter efforts were also noteworthy as she hit 56.02 in an open effort.
