The North Central College women's cross country team took on a field of the state of Illinois' best on Friday at Weibring Golf Course, taking seventh place at the 31-team Illinois Intercollegiate Championships.

The Cardinals duplicated their finish from last year's meet, scoring 216 points and placing second among the non-NCAA Division I teams in the field. Northwestern University tallied 35 points to win the team competition, finishing 31 points ahead of the host institution, Illinois State University.

Northwestern's Audrey Huth won the individual championship, touring the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes, 35 seconds. Amanda Laesch was the Cardinals' top finisher, placing sixth in a time of 18:01.

The next North Central finisher was Lauren Hooks, who finished 50th in 19:13 and crossed the line one second and one place ahead of Kala Bingham. The Cardinals' scoring was completed by Sarah Scanlin and Sarah Ahn, who were both timed in 19:46 and placed 79th and 80th, respectively.

The Cardinals travel to the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 25, while also sending a squad to Lake Forest College's Forester Invitational.
