Davidson Men's Cross Country Ranked 11th in Southeast

NEW ORLEANS, La. -
The Davidson men's cross country team returned to 11th in the 2010 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region rankings after winning the Clemson Invitational Friday, the association office announced Monday.

Davidson was 11th in the 2010 preseason rankings, marking the first time the Wildcats had been recognized before the season.

NC State ranks first and is followed by Duke and Virginia. Davidson leads High Point (12th), Southern Conference rival Appalachian State (13th), Kentucky (14th) and Charlotte (15th).

In their last outing, junior Ryan Hopkins (Greenwich, Conn.) ran the fastest 8K cross country time in Davidson history, 24:20, to place second and lead the 'Cats to a first-place team finish.

The 'Cats will split and compete in two meets Friday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2. One group will compete in the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational on Friday while a select group will compete in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Challenge Saturday

NCAA Southeast Regional Championships will take place on Nov. 13 in Louisville, Ky. The top two teams in each region earn automatic berths to the national NCAA Championships and will be joined by 13 at-large squads – a format that has been in place since 1998. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held on Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
