MEMPHIS - Austin Peay State University men's cross country
team continued to have difficulty at the eight-kilometer distance, finishing
17th at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic hosted by Christian
Brothers at Mike Rose Stadium.
Austin Peay scored 447 points to finish 17th in the
30-team field and third out of the four Ohio Valley Conference teams in the
field. Eastern Kentucky won the event with 53 points.
Junior Enock Langat continued to impress in the season's
first half, finishing 27th in the 264-man field with a time of 25:08.63.
Sophomore Geofrey Kosgei was 59th just 43 seconds behind with a time of
25:51.65. However, junior Boniface Yator was unable to stick with the two front
runners, finishing 141st with a time of 27:16.25.
"We've had our top three runners stay together in the
first three meets, but that wasn't the case tonight," said Austin Peay cross
country coach Doug Molnar. "Enock and Kosgei each ran well but we didn't have
the cohesiveness we needed. We were strung out all over the place tonight. It
was not nearly what we were looking for coming out of this meet."
Freshman Tyler Kepley followed Yator in 142nd place,
completing the course in 27:16.69. Freshman Genaro Martinez (27:33.94) finished
153rd in his first collegiate meet. Junior Evan Collins (27:40.95) was 162nd
and sophomore Konner Kessler (28:38.83) was 194th to round out the Govs effort.
Austin Peay returns to action at the Greater Louisville
Classic, next Saturday.
