Sept. 28, 2010-- The North Central College men's cross country team maintains its No. 1 ranking in the Midwest Region for the second consecutive week in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Regional Rankings released Tuesday.

The region's top four squads remained unchanged from a week ago, the Cardinals continued their hold on the top position followed by Washington University in Saint Louis, University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point jumps up one spot to fifth to round out the region's top five. Augustana College was the only other College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin representative in the rankings, moving up one spot to seventh.

The Cardinals were idle last week, having last competed on Sept. 17 when the squad placed second at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships. Five North Central runners placed in the top 20 at the Illinois Intercollegiates, including Michael Spain who captured the individual title after finishing the 8,000-meter race in 24:23.

North Central returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1, sending the top squad to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational while the rest of the team heads north to Somers, Wis. for the Carthage Invitational.
