Men drop to #4 in region


ABILENE – The ACU men's cross country team dropped from No. 1 to No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings, which were released Tuesday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association.


The Wildcats dropped three spots from No. 1 in the region to No. 4 after last weekend's disappointing 10th
-place finish at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.  The Wildcats finished fourth among NCAA Division II teams at the meet, running behind Central Missouri (fourth with 175 points), Pittsburg State (eighth with 215 points) and East Central (ninth with 250 points).


The Mules of Central Missouri moved up to No. 1 from No. 5 in the regional poll, followed by Pitt State, which moved from No. 8 to No. 2.  East Central dropped from No. 3 to No. 2, followed by ACU at No. 4 and Eastern New Mexico at No. 5.


The second 10 is led by Fort Hsys State at No. 6, followed by Missouri Southern at No. 7, Tarleton State at No. 8, Emporia State at No. 9 and Cameron at No. 10.


The Wildcats are off this week, but will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 9) when they host the Naimadu Pre-Conference Meet at Sherrod Park.
