LISLE, Ill. (Oct. 8, 2010)-- Four runners in the top 20 powered the North Central College men's cross country squad to a third place finish on Friday afternoon at the 15-team Benedictine University Eagle Invitational held at Lisle Community Park.

Despite resting several of its top runners, North Central still managed to place third, scoring 78 points. The University of Saint Francis (Ill.) secured the team title with five finishers among the top 10, scoring 26 points.

Kelvin Guilbault paced the Cardinals, traversing the 8,000-meter course in 26:37.11, to place ninth among collegiate competitors. Mitch Gilbert was 13th in 27:00.97 while Dave Janet was to spots back in 15th, clocking a 27:03.33. David Weber and Matt Mazzoni rounded out the scoring top five, finishing back-to-back in 20th and 21st places. Weber finished in 27:23.47 while Mazzoni crossed the tape in 27:25.22.

Eric Anerino won the race in 25:57.52 competing unattached while Sean Smith of St. Francis was the top finishing collegian, clocking a 26:00.26.

The Cardinals, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, return to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, traveling to Winneconne, Wis. for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational.
