Cardinals Remain No. 1 in Coaches' Poll

Complete USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll

Oct. 13, 2010-- The North Central College men's cross country squad remains the nation's No. 1 ranked team for the fourth consecutive week according to the sixth installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association NCAA Division III Coaches' Top 35 Poll, released Wednesday.

The Cardinals secured all eight first place votes, scoring 280 total points to sit atop the week five rankings. Midwest Region rival Washington University in Saint Louis is No. 2 with 268 points followed by Allegheny College (Pa.) as the Gators accumulated 266 points for the No. 3 ranking. The State University of New York-Geneseo is fourth (256 points) with Saint Lawrence University (N.Y.) rounding out the top five with 246 points.

Augustana College is the only other College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin school to appear in the poll, dropping one spot to 14th with 170 points.

Resting several of its top runners, North Central finished third at the 15-team Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday. Pacing the squad was Kelvin Guilbault, placing ninth among collegiate competitors after completing the 8,000-meter race at Lisle Community Park in 26:37.11. Mitch Gilbert (27:00.97) and Dave Janet (27:03.33) joined Guilbault in the top 15, finishing 13th and 15th, respectively.

The Cardinals travel to Winneconne, Wis. on Saturday, Oct. 16., competing at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational.
