CHARLESTON, S.C. - The men's and women's cross country teams resume competition Friday at the Blue Ridge Open, hosted by Appalachian State.
The women's 5k race is set to start at 3:00p.m. with the men's 8k following at 3:45p.m.
This meet will be an opportunity for the athletes to become more familiar with the course since they will return in two weeks for the Southern Conference Championships.
"Most of the upperclassmen have raced here," said Head Coach Amy Seago. "The freshmen haven't seen it, so I think it's good to keep the course fresh in their minds."
The Cougars last raced at the Charlotte Invitational Oct. 1, where both teams finished in seventh place. Junior Christian Bailey (25:33 for 8k) broke the school record and freshman Dena O'Brien (17:53 for 5k) set the freshman record. O'Brien's time is fourth on the all-time list.
Among the teams racing this weekend will be Duke, Virginia Tech, NC State and Kentucky.
Seago said she feels good about where the team is at, but noted there is still room for improvement.
"Workouts have been going really well," she said. "This time of year is when you want to race well. The big focus is on now and two weeks from now and making sure we are prepared."
