OWENSBORO - Junior Enock Langat finished sixth to lead
Austin Peay State University men's cross country team at the Fast Cats Classic,
Saturday, at Yellow Creek Park.
Langat complete the eight-kilometer course in 25:48.81,
finishing sixth out of 70 runners. He was 39 seconds off the lead pace set by
Southern Indiana's Dustin Emerick, who won the event with a time of 25:09.82.
His finish led the Govs to a third-place finish in the
six-team field. Southern Indiana, which had five runners finish among the top
10, won the men's team competition.
"Enock had a real nice race," said APSU head cross country
coach Doug Molnar. "Each week he keeps doing what he needs to do to be
all-conference at the end of the year. I thought overall as a team we ran a
solid race, we were fairly aggressive and moved when we needed to move."
Behind Langat, sophomore Geofrey Kosgei finished 11th with
a time of 26:13.44. Freshman Tyler Kepley (31st, 27:40.97), junior Boniface Yator (32nd, 27:41.50) and freshman Genaro Martinez (39th, 28:10.26) finished
among the Govs top five. Sophomore Evan Collins (42nd, 28:20.74) and freshman
Konnor Kessler (54th, 29:50.92) rounded out the Govs effort.
Austin Peay returns to action at the 2010 Ohio Valley
Conference Cross Country Championships, Sat., Oct. 30 in Cookeville, hosted by Tennessee
Tech.
