W. Cross Country Set for SoCon Championships Tomorrow in Boone

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Seniors Lauren Childs and Heather Conarroe, a pair of top 20 runners, will lead the Davidson Wildcat women's cross country team when they compete at the 2010 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships in Boone, N.C., Saturday at 10 a.m. 

Childs and Conarroe have run up front all season for the Wildcats, finishing one-two in all of the team's meets.  Childs ranks 11th in the league with a time of 18:14.40 from the Royal Cross Country Challenge, while Conarroe is right behind with a time of 18:20.05 from the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.

Senior Sarah Cline, sophomore Natalie Atabek and freshman Megan Mavity have rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats at every meet this season. Cline has been the Wildcats' third scorer at three meets, running her best time of 18:46.30 at the Royal Cross Country Challenge. Atabek finished as the Wildcats' third scorer at the Covered Bridge Invitational, but ran her top-time of 19:04.67 at the Clemson Invite, while Mavity's ran her best performance of 18:51.40 came at the Royal Cross Country Challenge.

The Samford women are seeking their second straight conference title in their fourth appearance at the Championship. The preseason favorites are led by number-one ranked sophomore Lauren D'Alessio (17:33.40) and senior Hillary Neal, third with a time of 17:39.58. The Bulldogs have three additional runners ranked in the top 20 in Deanna Zidar (14th, 18:20.70), Holly Benson (17th, 18:32.10) and Ina Ables (20th, 18:39.31).

Ashley Schnell of UNCG ranks second in the conference, and the Spartans will also count on Shaina Sumney (7th, 17:58.66) and Kerry Hartman (8th, 18:05.10) on Saturday.

App State also has three runners ranked in the top 20, led by last year's freshman of the year Brittney Caudle, who ranks sixth with a time of 17:58.64.

Like the Wildcats, the College of Charleston and Elon have a pair of runners in the top 20 and will need to get some production out of the rest of their lineup to challenge for the title.
