Conarroe and Childs Finish in Top 20, Wildcat Women Place Eighth at SoCon Championship

BOONE, N.C. -- As they have done all season, seniors Heather Conarroe and Lauren Childs paced the Wildcats at the 2010 SoCon Cross Country Championships, racing to top-20 finishes to lead Davidson to an eighth-place overall finish Saturday in Boone, N.C.

Conarroe was the Wildcats' top finisher, placing 13th overall with a time of 18:32.92 to earn All-SoCon Second Team honors, while Childs was just behind with a 16th-place time of 18:42.54.

Davidson's third scorer, classmate Sarah Cline finished 35th overall with a time of 19:15.90. Sophomore Natalie Atabek finished 44th overall in 19:26.28, and freshman Megan Mavity was the 'Cats' final scorer, placing 57th overall with a time of 19:46.63.

Davidson finished in eighth place in the team scoring with 161 points. Samford repeated as team champions with just 71 points behind three top-10 performances, including runner up Lauren D'Alessio with a time of 17:45.88. Appalachian State finished second with 74 points and three top-15 runners, followed by UNCG, who was led by individual champion Ashley Schnell with a time of 17:39.98, with 87 points.

Chattanooga (123), Elon (135), Furman (144) and the College of Charleston (149) finished ahead of the Wildcats, who were followed by Western Carolina (202), Wofford (274), The Citadel (319) and Georgia Southern (357).

After a weekend off, the Wildcats will return to action when they travel to the NCAA Regional Championship in Lexington, Ky. Nov. 13.
