Cardinals Maintain No. 1 Regional Ranking

Nov. 2, 2010-- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its ninth installment of the regional rankings on Tuesday with the North Central College men's cross country team continuing to occupy the top spot in the Midwest Region.

The Cardinals remain No. 1 for the sixth straight week after winning their unprecedented 37th straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin crown on Saturday. North Central blew away the field at the CCIW Championships, scoring 17 points after securing seven of the top eight finishers. Seventh-ranked Augustana College was the Cardinals' closest adversary, scoring 67 points. Mike Spain race to the individual title, traversing the 8,000-meter course in 24:15 as all seven varsity runners earned All-Conference accolades.

Washington University in Saint Louis and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point both rose up one spot in the rankings to No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, after earning conference titles over the weekend. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville dropped two spots to fourth while the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh jumps one spot to round out the top five.

CCIW-rivals Augustana and Wheaton College remain in the top 10. The Vikings remain seventh while the Thunder remain 10th.

The Cardinals return to Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. on Saturday, Nov. 13, for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships.
