Men's Cross Country No. 1 for Seventh Straight Week

Nov. 3, 2010-- The North Central College men's cross country squad maintained its grip on the No. 1 spot in the ninth installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III National Coaches' Poll, released Wednesday.

The Cardinals garnered all eight first place votes, accumulating 280 total points to remain the nation's top squad for the seventh consecutive week. Allegheny College (Pa.) remained No. 2 with 272 points followed by the State University of New York-Geneseo (263 points) and Calvin College (Mich.). Haverford College (Mass.) rounds out the top five.

Augustana College was the only other College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin institution to appear in the Top 35, falling two spots to 20th, receiving 125 points.

North Central claimed its 37th consecutive CCIW crown on Saturday at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill., claiming seven of the top eight finishers at the meet, scoring 17 points to outdistance Augustana College by a 50-point margin. Michael Spain claimed top individual honors, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 24:15.

The Cardinals return to Saukie Golf Course on Saturday, Nov. 13, for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships.
