Wildcats Return to National Meet

Watch Live

LOUSIVILLE, Ky. – Abilene Christian men's cross country team returns NCAA National Championships Saturday led by South Central Region Champion Amos Sang. Anais Belledant will represent the Wildcats on the women's side after winning the South Central Region as well.

The Division II Cross Country Championships will be conducted at Louisville's E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park as part of the fall Division II National Championships Festival. The men's 10-kilometer race will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the women's race at 11 a.m. The forecast is for cold weather, with rain and snow possible.

After putting pressure on themselves to get back to the national meet the Wildcats are just happy to be back competing with the top teams in the nation. Included in those top teams is Adams State who is looking to finish of a season at the top spot, a spot they have held all season long.

If the Wildcats look to push to the top a trio of teams will await all challengers with the Grizzlies including No. 2-ranked Western State and Midwest Regional Champion Grand Valley State. Adams State and Western State, both from the RMAC, have won 10 of the last 12 National Championships. Those two titles are held by ACU who took back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.

Sang who is familiar with the big stage, will be looking to improve on his fourth place finish from a year ago after taking his second consecutive South Central Region Championship. This year Sang will have his entire team there to help including Cleophas Tanui and Romain Rybicki along with a strong group of underclassmen.
