What's Ahead: The Drake men's track and field team, after its first meet of the year with its all of competitors back, will set its eyes on the Jayhawk Classic hosted by Kansas University. Competition at the Anschutz Pavilion in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday (Jan. 28) will last all day.
A Look Back: Sophomore Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) jumped 46 feet 11 inches to take home the triple jump crown, while sophomore Isaac Twombly (Baldwin, Kan.) broke the school record in the weight throw to highlight action at the Iowa State Open last Friday and Saturday (Jan. 21-22) in Ames, Iowa.
Twombly broke the Drake indoor weight throw record with a throw of 56 feet 4.50 inches. His toss, which netted him a fourth place finish, smashed the former Drake record of 45-0 by Eric Bumgardner in 1993.
Sophomore Tim Cornish (Wellington, New Zealand) and freshman Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the seeded 3,000-meter race. Cornish had a time of 8:33:36, while Austin was clocked in 8:34.52.
Junior Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.) was 11th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.17.
Freshman Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) ran a time of 50.56 in the 400-meter dash to finish 13th.
Freshman Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.) registered a 14th-place finish in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:57.45.

next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 4-5).
