JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Kennesaw State women’s track and field team closed out their second day strong at the Niswonger Invitational Saturday. Competing in their final meet before conference, the squad had several top ten finishes to round out day two.

“It was a very solid performance across the board this weekend,” head track and field coach Andy Eggerth said. “As we have been getting better each week, we just hope that everyone continues to set new records and improve. We have next weekend off and should be good going into conference in two weeks.”

Following up a day one that saw several new records set, five Owls finished in the top five of their events. Mackenzie Howe, reigning Atlantic Sun Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, finished second in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meter competitions today. In the 3,000, her time of 10:02.96 would beat the third place finisher by six seconds. Her 5,000 meters time of 17:20.26 blew away her next competitor by 42 seconds.

Setting her new season best in the 60 hurdles, Naomi Mack’s time of 9.14 seconds would beat her previous record this season by eight tenths of a second, good enough for third place. Joining Mack in the 60 hurdles, Naquia Williams finished fifth in 9.22 seconds.

In the 800 meters, teammates Morgan Williams and Brittany Robinson had top ten finishes. Williams crossed the line in 2:21.76, well enough for fifth. Robinson was not far behind in seventh with a time of 2:21.96.

The team will be stationary for a week before heading back to ETSU to participate in the Atlantic Sun Indoor Conference Championship Feb. 18-19.
