Feb. 8, 2011 - The North Central College men's track and field team has secured a third straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Track Athlete of the Week Award, as the Cardinals' 4x400-meter relay squad has received the honor for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
The quartet of
Jon Howard,
Bai Kabba,
Jonathan Caron and Daniel Benton finished first at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Squig Converse Invitational on Friday, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships with a time of 3 minutes, 17.97 seconds. The time currently stands as the fastest Division III mark this indoor season.
The Cardinals have now won three straight Track Athlete of the Week Awards, as Benton received the honor on Feb. 1 and distance runner
Michael Spain was selected on Jan. 25. North Central pole vaulters
Josh Winder and
John Wood were selected as the CCIW's Field Athlete of the Week recipients on Jan. 25 and Feb. 1, respectively.
North Central hosts the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday at Al B. Carius Track, with running events and field events scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
