Feb. 9, 2011-- The North Central College men's track & field squad remains the top ranked team in NCAA Division III in the third installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Team Computer Rankings, released Wednesday.

The computer rankings are new for the 2011 season. Mathematical formulae based on current national descending-order lists in all events are used to compile a team's ranking. The purpose of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Cardinals secured 128.27 points in the week three rankings, marking the third straight week North Central has been ranked No. 1.  The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse remains second with 118.67 points while the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater jumps up six spots to No. 3 with 101.45 points. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is fourth, climbing up eight spots in the rankings after amassing 87.50 points while the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is fifth with 86.86 points.

North Central finished second at Friday's Warhawk Classic hosted by UW-Whitewater, winning six events and posting four new or improved national qualifying marks, including the 4x400-meter relay squad that currently holds the fastest time in the country. The squad of Jon Howard, Bai Kabba, Jonathan Caron and Daniel Benton won the event in 3:17.97 and were named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconisn Track Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., hosting the annual Chicagoland Indoor Championships at the Al B. Carius Track.
