2/12/2011 10:47:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's track team was busy again this weekend, hosting the 24-team Robert J. Kane Invitational at Barton Hall on Friday and Saturday as well as sending athletes to Boston University's Valentine Invitational on Saturday.

Elite middle distance and distance efforts were the theme of the day for a contingent of Cornell men that raced at Boston University on Saturday at the Valentine Invitational.  These efforts were highlighted by a trio of seniors who had big days.  Senior Nate Edelman placed second in the 5000 to run the second best time in school history, 14:12.25.  In the 3000, senior Matt De Silva had a great day to place sixth overall in 8:12.39, good enough for #10 all-time at Cornell.  And in the mile, senior Adrien Dannemiller ran 4:04.44 for first in his heat and eighth overall and in the process moved up to #4 all-time at Cornell.  Freshman John Schilkowski ran 1:52.67 for fifteenth in the 800 and sophomore Nick Wade ran 4:13.99 in the mile as both underclassmen bettered the IC4A standard.

Back in Ithaca, the Cornell men had very good performances in the largest meet of the year thus far in Barton Hall,  producing ten event wins and 12 IC4A qualifiersl.  Junior Bob Belden continued his torrid throwing with a win in the shot put and a runner-up showing in the weight throw, reaching 57-2 in the shot and 56-10 in the weight.  Classmate Chris Arlinghause cleared 6-10 1/4 for the second straight week to win the high jump and freshman Hercules Stancil joined him as an IC4A qualifier by placing second at 6-8 1/4.  Junior Nick Huber returned to action and placed third at 6-6 1/4.  In the heptathlon, senior co-captain Alex Holcombe won and qualified for the IC4As with a total of 4, 832 points while junior Josh Cusick was second in the 23-man field with a score of 4, 740 points.  There were several solid, IC4A-caliber showings in the jumps:  junior Chase Aaronson was second in the long jump at 23-2 while freshman Dan Scott (third, 47-4 1/2) and senior Julian Remouns (4th, 47-2 1/2) did well in the triple jump.

On the track, the Big Red had several very good showings.  In the 500, junior Brian Freitas (64.29) and senior Cody Boyd (64.75) placed first and second and dipped under the Eastern standard while Cornell took the top five places in the 400, led by junior Ken McClain (49.45) and junior Dan Thomas (49.98).  Cornell also took the top five places in the 800 as senior Tommy Roy won in 1:57.21 in a blanket finish of Cornell half-milers.  In the 60 hurdles, junior Dan Hagberg again performed well, matching his PR with a time of 8.10 to win the event.  In addition to Aaronson's effort in the long jump, he also claimed first in the 60, running 6.93 as sophomore Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom was third in 6.98 with both reaching the IC4A standard as they have in every meet this season.  Senior Rick Semenick won the 200 in 23.03 and sophomore Andy Arnold ran away from the field in the 3K, crossing the line in 8:31.50.  The 4X400 ran 3:25.53 for first as well.  A week removed from a first-place finish at Penn State in the 5K, senior Steve Soprano was second this week in 15:15.18.
