NEW ORLEANS, La.- After a 2010 season that saw a second straight Atlantic Sun Conference title, the men's cross country team can now add NCAA All-Academic to their list of accolades, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday.

"Being an academic myself, it's great to see the men's team accomplish something like this," head cross country coach Stan Sims said. "It shows that we are capable of competing at a high level not only on the course but in the classroom as well."

Finishing with a cumulative team GPA of 3.21, Kennesaw State was one of 152 schools from 31 conferences named to the list. Florida State, runner-up at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships, was given the Scholar Team of the Year. Joining the Owls were several other A-Sun schools such as Lipscomb, Mercer and Belmont. To be named to the list, a team must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher and have competed at least five athletes at NCAA Regionals.

Adding this honor to their already successful season, the squad finished first for the second consecutive season in the A-Sun and placed ninth at the NCAA South Regional. Nabil Hamid, Jaakko Nieminen and Piotr Witczak were given All-Conference honors while Coach Sims was given a second straight A-Sun Men's Coach of the Year award in the A-Sun.
