JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Closing out their final meet of the indoor season, the Kennesaw State men’s track and field team finished second at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Conference Championships. Sitting in fifth place at the end of the day Friday, the team battled back with several first place finishes to secure themselves the runner up spot.

ETSU regained A-Sun glory for the first time since 2007 after a two year run atop the heap. Kennesaw State broke their streak in 2008 and backed it up with another first place finish in 2010. ETSU finished with 152 points with Kennesaw State not far behind with 137 points.

Setting a new school record in the long jump on Friday, Anjoun Armaly jumped his way to a first place finish in the triple jump Saturday, securing him an All-Conference award and breaking his already owned school record. His distance of 15.11 meters (49’ 6.88”) beat the old record he set at Clemson by eight hundredths of a meter.

After competing in the 3,000 meter race Friday, Jaakko Nieminen was back for more Saturday in the 5,000. His time of 14:56.22 was good enough for second place but also broke the previous school record of 15:07.99. Nieminen also finished third in the mile, finishing 4:15.83.

Finishing up day two of the heptathlon, Brian Graham sat in sixth coming into the remainder of the events on Saturday. A first place finish in both the 60 meter hurdles and 1,000 meter race gave Graham a second place finish overall with 4,685 points.

Sophomore Cameron Zeman sets a new personal record in the high jump, leaping 2.14 meters. His height gave him a first place victory and beat the second place finisher by one tenth of a meter or almost a foot.

The last men’s event of the day, 4x4 relay, didn’t disappoint for the Owls who came in first with a time of 3:19.15. The quartet of Joshua James, David Tansey, James Verdi and Jemir Martinez also receive All-Conference honors for their first place finish.

In order to make All-Conference, an athlete must finish in the top three of their respective events. Joining the 4x4 relay winners are Armaly, Nieminen, Graham, Zeman, Adam Reed, Tyler Riberdy, Kendall Parks and Gianni Catalano.

After finishing today’s meet, the squad will get a break from action for about a month before starting their outdoor season. The first meet is the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational March 18 in Atlanta.
