JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – After two days of solid competition, the Kennesaw State women’s track and field team finished in third place at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Conference Championships. Reigning champion Jacksonville won its sixth straight title blowing by runner up North Florida.
After finishing in first place in the 3,000 meters on Friday, Mackenzie Howe added another first place victory and All-Conference award in the 5,000 meters. Her time of 16:54.97 shattered the not only the previous school record set by teammate Patricia Hayes in 2006 but the A-Sun Indoor meet record as well.
Joining Howe in breaking school records, Victoria Jackson set the new Kennesaw State 60 meter dash record on Saturday. Her time of 7.71 seconds in the race broke the previous record set by teammate Cynthia Davis by five hundredths of a second.
While the men finished up the final events of the heptathlon in the morning, the women’s pole vault and weight throw events were competing. Michelle Quimby finished second in the pole vault clearing a top height of 3.55 meters. In weight throw, Suzee Mills threw a top distance of 16.68 meters for third place and a spot on the All-Conference list.
Four Owls made All-Conference honors: Howe, Quimby, Mills and Naomi Mack. In order to make All-Conference, an athlete must finish in the top three of their respective event.
With the conclusion of today’s meet, the team will get a well-deserved break until they open the outdoor season at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational in Atlanta March 18.
