Men's Track & Field Set for Indoor SoCon Championships

DAVIDSON, N.C. –
After seeing two school records fall, the Davidson men's track and field team is looking for a strong performances at the Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday and Sunday at the Indoor Track Complex on the campus of Clemson University.

The championship will be begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the women's pentathlon, followed by four of the men's heptathlon events at 10:15 a.m. The awards ceremony is tentatively set for Sunday at 4:40 p.m.

The event is free to the public. Live results, daily recaps, daily photos and video highlights can be found on the Southern Conference website.

Seniors JinHan Song and Bryce Jones set new Wildcat standards in the 60-meter dash (7.05 seconds) and pole vault (4.30m, 14-1/4), and both will look to improve on their performances this weekend. Song has also been strong in the 400-meter dash, posting the team's top-time of 50.46. In addition to the pole vault, Jones could run the 200-meter dash, where he posted a team-best time of 22.98, just .04 seconds off the school record.

Freshman Andrew Lantz will look to make his mark for the Wildcats in the 800-meter run. His season-best time of 1:55.91 is within a second of the school record. Classmate Grayam Saylor-Tynes and senior Jonathan Koch will also look to lead the 'Cats middle distance group.

Senior Charlie Schmitt has led the distance group this season, posting the Wildcats' top times in the 3000- and 5000-meter runs. His 3000m time of 8:28.73 ranks fourth in the conference, while he leads the team in the 5000m with a season-best time of 15:22.25.

Sophomore Demetrios Pagonis and junior Ryan Hopkins could also give the 'Cats a boost, as the duo ran the sixth- and seventh-fastest 3000m times in the conference (8:33.85 and 8:34.12), respectively.

Appalachian State claimed the men's title last season, and they are seeking their third-straight and eighth championship since 2000. Davidson is looking to improve on last year's fifth-place finish.
