Jake Freeman Claims Second National Title

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - At the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships from the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday, former Manhattan College track & field star Jake Freeman won the weight throw competition to capture his second career national title.  Freeman is the reigning National Champion outdoors in the hammer throw.

Competing for the New York Athletic Club, Freeman's third-round throw of 24.08 meters (79 feet) was enough to win the title.  He took the lead on his first throw of the competition, then bettered that mark on his third attempt.  Freeman beat silver medalist A.G. Kruger by 35 centimeters (a little more than one foot) and bronze medalist Michael Mai by 36 centimeters.

Also on Saturday, another Manhattan track & field alumna, Malin Marmbrandt, took the bronze in the women's long jump at the Swedish National Indoor Championships.  Marmbrandt finished just five centimeters out of first place.
