Conarroe Highlights Final Day at Indoor SoCon Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Senior Heather Conarroe finished fourth in the 5000 meters to lead the Davidson Wildcat women's track and field team as competition concluded Sunday at the 2011 SoCon Indoor Championships, held at the Clemson Indoor Track.

Conarroe finished fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:51.18. Freshman Megan Mavity finished just outside the scoring with a 10th-place time of 18:25.47 to earn All-Freshman honors, and classmate Alexandra Horst was 31st (19:54.88).

After scoring yesterday for the 'Cats in the 3000 meters, senior Sarah Cline was the Wildcats' top finisher in the mile, running a 17th-place time of 5:23.02. Junior Jane Gay (22nd, 5:32.21) and sophomore Haley Holway (24th, 5:49.59) also competed in the event for Davidson.

Appalachian State swept the 2011 SoCon indoor track championships. The title was the eighth for the Mountaineer men since 2000 and third in a row, and the ninth women's title for Appalachian State since 2000.

The Mountaineers (185 points) beat out Western Carolina, who finished second with 110.50 points. Georgia Southern (97), Elon (84), Samford (62.50), College of Charleston (49), UNCG (31), Furman (21) and the Citadel (13) followed. Davidson finished in 10th place with eight points, and Wofford rounded out the field with two points.

Davidson will open the outdoor season at the Charlotte 49er Classic on March 18.
