Burnick wins 1500-meter run at Coastal Carolina

Crystal Burnick won the 1500-meter run while Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith ran NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 400-meter hurdles at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.

CONWAY, S.C. - Crystal Burnick won the 1500-meter run while Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith ran NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Slippery Rock University women's outdoor track and field team at this weekend's Coastal Carolina Invitational.

Burnick won the 1500-meters after clocking a time of 4:46.22. She also took home eighth place in the 800-meter run at 2:21.31. Both times were good enough to meet the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standards.

Three more Rock women also qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 1500-meter run this weekend. Stephanie Case finished in fourth place at 4:54.39, Stephanie Turak came in 10th place with a time of 4:59.94 and Abby Michaelian ran a time of 5:02.12 to place 12th.

Slippery Rock received top-5 finishes from Seigworth and Smith in the 400-meter hurdles. Seigworth placed second in 1:01.37 and Smith was right behind her in third place with a time of 1:01.98. Both times are NCAA provisional qualifying times. They were joined in the event by PSAC qualifiers Jayme Stanek (9th / 1:05.66) and Elissa McCune (15th / 1:08.29). Smith and Seigworth also qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 100-meter hurdles with matching times of 14.83.

Tiffany Tedesco and Tayler McCracken had a productive meet this weekend as both runners met the PSAC qualifying standards in multiple events.

Tedesco qualified for the PSAC Championships in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She registered a time of 12.75 in the 100-meters and 26.55 in the 200-meters

McCracken joined Tedesco in the 200 with a time of 26.50 and also beat the PSAC standard in the 400-meter run at 1:00.57.

Slippery Rock's field athletes were led by PSAC qualifying efforts from Julia Cain and Kim Stitt. Cain finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.50 meters and Stitt placed eighth in the shot put with a mark of 11.98 meters. Cain's mark was an improvement over her previous PSAC qualifying clearance of 3.35 meters.

Slippery Rock will be back in action March 25-26 at both the Western PA Championships and at the Raleigh Relays.
