A&M Sweeps the 400-meter Hurdles in Southern Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The Alabama A&M men’s and women’s track teams participated in the Southern Track & Field Invitational hosted by Birmingham-Southern on Saturday.

Top finishes for the racing Lady Bulldogs included an eight-place finish by Marcianna Daniel in the women's 100-meter run with a time of 13.14, as well as a tenth-place finish by Brittany Scott in the women's 200-meter run with a time of 26.14.

Shaquina Phalo also placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.88, and in the 400-meter hurdles Taukania placed ninth with a time of 1:08.17. The Maroon and White 4x100 relay team placed third with a time of 50.25.

For the men, it was a one, two, three sweep in the 400-meter hurdles and also a meet record. Kwesi Toney, D’Mitri Lewis and Nathan Stephens each posted the best meet time of 54.9, 55.12, and 55.30 respectively. Brendon Johnson placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.18; Darius McDaniel was sixth in the same event. Marion Malone set a meet record in the 200-meter run with a time of 21.98 and finished third in the event. Jonathan Sanford placed second in the long jump for A&M, his distance was 6.72.

The Bulldogs travel to Atlanta next weekend for the Morehouse Relays.
