ATLANTA, Ga.- After finishing in second place in the Atlantic Sun Indoor Conference Championships, the Kennesaw State’s men track and field team kicks off their outdoor season at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational, Friday and Saturday. The meet hosted by Georgia Tech features schools from all over the state as well as area high schools.

“We’re looking forward to opening our outdoor season this weekend at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational,” head track and field coach Andy Eggerth said.  “As soon as the indoor season ended we got back to work.  The kids are feeling heavy and sore, but they’ve already developed so much this year, that I expect them to open with some great performances.  It’s also fun to get to compete in those ‘new’ events that we don’t get to do indoor and see how that training is shaping up.”

The men have already had a successful start to their track season with 12 All-Conference performers and numerous school records broken during indoor competition. First year Owl Anjoun Armaly has already begun to make his mark for Kennesaw State in the triple and long jump.

In his first indoor meet of the season, Armaly broke the previous school record in the triple jump. During the A-Sun Indoor Championship not only did Armaly break his record in the triple jump, but he also shattered the long jump record as well with a 22’ 11.59” leap.

Returning for the outdoor season are seniors Jerome McKinzie and Josh McNair. McKinzie returns after a 2010 campaign that saw a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for high jump. Finishing in 22nd overall, he would clear a top height of 2.05 meters. In the shot put, McNair won All-Conference for his first place finish and also qualified for NCAA East Region Preliminaries where he finished 32nd overall.

Since the meet consists of college and high school athletes, the main competition for the collegiate level will be Friday. Competition begins at 9 a.m. with the hammer throw and concludes at 10 p.m. with the 5,000 meter race.
