RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Charlie Schmitt (Midlothian, Va.) broke the 32-year old Davidson men's track and field record in the 5000-meter run in 14 minutes, 27.21 seconds, while junior Ryan Hopkins (Greenwich, Conn.) broke the school 10,000-meter run standard by less than a tenth of a second Friday at the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. Hopkins placed fourth in the 10K in 30:14.87, narrowly surpassing the record Brent Ferrell set of 30:14.96 at the Raleigh Relays on March 31, 2000. Liberty's Sam Chelanga, the defending NCAA runner-up, won the event in 28:15.64.

The rest of the Davidson men's track and field team is competing at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. JinHan Song qualified for the finals in the 400-meter dash in 49.70 seconds. Greg Marcil led Davidson in the 5000-meter run in 15:45.20 to place fifth.

Competition at Winthrop will conclude Saturday.
