ATLANTA - Despite not being able to finish competition because of the weather, the Kennesaw State women’s track and field team was still able to get in some solid performances at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Saturday. After a few days that saw two school records broken, the Owls closed out a weekend filled with competition and rain.

“Our athletes competing at the Yellow Jacket invitational did a very nice job of showing up to compete even though it was cool and rainy,” head track and field coach Andy Eggerth said. “We didn’t see any stellar performances, but they were very solid considering the conditions.”

Mackenzie Howe and Naomi Mack kicked off the weekend on Friday with two record breaking performances at different meets. Howe broke her own school best at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 34:52.16.

Mack, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Alabama Relays, set a new school record in the heptathlon with 4,458 points while getting personal records in the 200 and 800, respectively.

On Saturday Cynthia Davis and Victoria Jackson finished in the top ten in the 100 meter dash. Davis crossed the line in 12.29 with Jackson right behind her at 12.50. Davis repeated her success with an eighth place finish in the 200 meter dash despite the rain.

In the high jump, Jakia Ragland narrowly missed tying her already held school record with a 1.65 meter jump. Her top clearance gave her a fifth place finish on the day.

After setting a new personal best by over 11 feet and nabbing a first place victory in the javelin last weekend, Suzee Mills followed it up this weekend with three top five finishes in the discus, shot put and hammer throw. In shot put and hammer throw, Mills finished in fourth and fifth in the discus throw.

The Owls will be flying west to Auburn, Ala. next weekend to compete in the Auburn Tiger Classic April 1-2.
