RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College's Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Cara Rostant (Valley Stream, N.Y.) were awarded the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Performer of the Week honors of the outdoor track & field season, the conference office announced on Tuesday. McGovern and Rostant both posted ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks at the season-opening Baldy Castillo Invitational at Arizona State on March 19.
McGovern finished sixth overall and fourth among the collegians in the pole vault, clearing 5.02 meters (16 feet, 5½ inches). His mark, which qualified him for both the IC4A Championships and NCAA East Regional Championships, was an Irish national record and Irish under-23 national record.
Rostant took third place in the women's 200 meters at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. Her time of 24.77 seconds was good enough to qualify for the ECAC Championships.
Manhattan is back in action at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University this weekend.
