SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After running the top 10,000-meter run time in the conference of the season, Davidson junior Ryan Hopkins has been named Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for all meets, March 25-27, the conference office announced Thursday.

Hopkins, a junior from Greenwich, Conn., placed fourth in the 10,000m run at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend. His time of 30:14.87 set a new Davidson school record and was the fastest time so far this season in the SoCon. It narrowly surpassed the school record Brent Ferrell set of 30:14.96 at the Raleigh Relays on March 31, 2000.

Hopkins is the first Wildcat to earn a conference weekly award this season. The last to do it during the outdoor season was David Ritchie in 2007.

Appalachian State senior Malcolm Styers was named the SoCon Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. The league's track and field coaches make the selections.

The Davidson men's track and field team will next compete at the Terrier Relays hosted by Wofford Saturday.
