AUBURN, Ala. - Heading full force into the final meet of the season before conference, the Kennesaw State women’s track and field team will have their hands full as they travel to Auburn for the Tiger Track Classic, April 1-2. Coming off a weekend that saw the team split across two coasts, the team will look to sharpen their skills before the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Conference Championships in two weeks.

“This is our final competition prior to the A-Sun Championship, so this gives our athletes an opportunity to get a qualifying mark,” head track and field coach Andy Eggerth said. “For those already qualified, they can focus on tuning up their event so they’re ready to compete at a very high level in two weeks.  The Auburn Tiger Classic provides a quality facility and strong competition, so we look forward to great results.”

Coming off a record setting weekend, Mackenzie Howe will change things up a bit competing in the shorter 1,500 and 3,000 meter races. Last weekend, Howe competed at the Stanford Invitational while, despite a bout of food poisoning, managed to finish eighth in the 10,000 meters and also set the school mark at 34:52.16.

A little closer to home, Naomi Mack set the new school record for the heptathlon at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala. While her final score of 4,458 nabbed the school best, she also ran a personal best in both the 200 and 800 meters, respectively.

Sophomore Suzee Mills looks to continue her successful outdoor campaign in the discus, hammer throw and javelin. Two weeks ago at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational at Georgia Tech, Mills set a personal record in the javelin with a 43 meter throw which was an 11 foot improvement over her previous best.

The Owls start competition on Friday with the women’s javelin throw at 4:30 p.m. Continuing Saturday morning, the team starts again with the pole vault at 11 a.m. and conclude with the 3,000 meter race.
