Mitchell, Schmitt Win Events at JCSU Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Will Mitchell and Ian Tupper were victorious in their respective events to lead the Davidson men's track and field team at the Johnson C. Smith University Invitational Saturday.

Inclement weather hampered the meet resulted in the cancellation of the men's and women's 5000-meter, the 4x400-meter relay, and the men's 200-meter dash.

Mitchell won the 1500-meter run in 4:02.54 and was followed by teammate Jonathan Koch in 4:04.89.

Tupper won the steeplechase in 9:36.47 and was followed by teammates Grayam Sailor-Tynes (third place, 9:44.49) and Vincent Weir (fourth place, 9:51.79).

JinHan Song led Davidson in the 400-meter dash in 49.30, which ranks as the 10th-fastest time in Davidson history.

Bryce Jones led Davidson in the 100-meter dash in 11.57 seconds and in the pole vault with a top mark of 12-11 ½.

Taylor Martin completed the 400-meter hurdles in 56.37 seconds.

The meet was the final tune-up before the Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships April 22-23, hosted by Samford in Birmingham, Ala.
