 Spearheaded by a trio of event victories, the North Central College women's track and field team leads an extremely close team competition in the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships, sitting first in a 21-team field at the University of Chicago's Ted Haydon Track.

The Cardinals totaled 115 points, just ahead of Carthage College (111) and the University of Illinois-Chicago (110) with one more event to count in the scoring, as the heptathlon concludes Saturday. North Central enjoyed a dominant performance in the javelin throw, sweeping the top three spots as Brianna Tolliver finished first (107 feet, seven inches), Kristine Zizis came in second (105'6") and Kayla Murphy finished third (95'4").

Murphy also won the 200-meter dash (25.49 seconds) and teamed with Lauren Brightmore, Melissa Savino and Sheila Walsh to place second in the 4x100-meter relay (49.09). The Cardinals also got a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, as Linnea Higgins hit the finish line in 59.12 seconds.

Savino placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.73) and third in the high jump (5'1 3/4"). Maggie Lapinski finished second in the 800-meter run (2:22.54), and North Central also got third-place finishes from Amanda Laesch in the 1,500-meter run (4:40.71), Molly Gstalter in the 100-meter hurdles (15.74) and Amanda Marek in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:27.52).

The Cardinals will take part in the Wheaton College Twilight Meet on Saturday, Apr. 16, beginning at 1 p.m.
