LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Cornell women's track and field team competed at day one of the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Friday and produced a number of outstanding performances in the distance events and the javelin. The Big Red had a very good day, producing 11 ECAC qualifiers, an event win and track record to go along with six alterations to the all-time top 10 lists in the distance events.

The meet got off to a good start in the 3000 steeplechase as all four Cornellians set personal bests. Senior Maura Carroll improved by eight seconds to place second overall in 10:37.6, fifth all-time at Cornell. She was followed closely by sophomore Genna Hartung, who placed third in 10:43.2, a five second PR which moved her up to seventh all-time. Freshman Rachel Sorna also impressed, improving her personal best by over 16 seconds to place fifth in 10:46.0, now eighth all-time at Cornell, and sophomore Suzana Markolovic was fourth in a 10-second PR of 11:11.8.

In the 1500, the Big Red placed first and second with two ECAC qualifiers. Sophomore Alyssa O'Connor and junior Janel Parker also both dipped under the old track record as O'Connor was first in 4:26.08 and Parker close behind in second in 4:26.62. Junior Meghan Brown also enjoyed a personal best with a seventh-place run of 4:34.82 and freshman Dale Kinney placed second in her heat (and 12th overall) with a PR of her own, running 4:38.40.

Cornell also had very impressive efforts in the 5000. The sophomore tandem of Katie Kellner and Kelsey Karys looked very strong and moved to fourth and fifth all-time at Cornell in setting new personal bests, and now sit behind only Pam Hunt '94, Toni Salucci '07 and Emily McCabe '06 on Cornell's all-time list in that event. The pair crossed the line together, as Kellner placed second (and was the top collegian in the race) with a time of 16:27.60 and Karys was third in 16:27.67. Another sophomore, Cara Costich, placed 14th overall with a 26-second personal best of 17:14.58 and an ECAC qualifier. Also setting a 26-second PR was freshman Liz Simpson, who ran very well to get 18th in 17:24.74. Sophomore Kate Rosettie was 23rd in 17:45.10 and earlier, junior Shelby Herman ran extremely well to move up the pack and win her heat of the 5K in 17:48.93, also a personal best.

In the 10K, senior Kristin Sellers had a 48-second personal best to place fourth overall with a very fine time of 36:12.82, good for eighth all-time at Cornell, and easily under the ECAC qualifying standard. Sophomore Neesha Schnepf, running in her first 10K, also met the ECAC requirement, crossing the line in a time of 37:28.92 for 19th place.

In the field, sophomore Victoria Imbesi placed second with an ECAC-qualifying throw of 145-9 in the javelin and classmate Brittany Dombrowski was fourth at 130-1. Fellow sophomore Claire Dishong was tenth in the discus at 129-3.
