Andrea Nyback Named MAAC Performer of the Week

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - After her record-breaking performance at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships over the weekend, sophomore Andrea Nyback (Koping, Sweden) of the Manhattan College women's track & field team has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Performer of the Week.  Nyback won the heptathlon with 4856 points, breaking the 13-year-old school record in the event.

Despite miserable conditions on Saturday, Nyback finished first in five of the seven events and took second in another.  In fact, her long jump of 5.67 meters (18 feet, 7¼ inches) and high jump of 1.62 m (5'3¾) both would've taken second place in the stand-alone competition in each event.  She won the competition by more than 500 points and easily qualified for the ECAC Championships.  Nyback shattered Kate Fecinta's old school mark of 4470 points, set at the 1998 ECAC Championships.

This marks the fourth straight week in which Manhattan has taken home MAAC Performer of the Week honors on the women's side.  Cara Rostant (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was honored on March 29 and April 5, while Megan Tice (Hyde Park, N.Y.) won the award last week.

The MAAC Championships are just three weeks away, but first Manhattan heads to the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University this weekend.
