Women's Track & Field Set for 2011 Outdoor SoCon Championships

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The 2011 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., on Friday and Saturday April 22-23.
The championship will begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. (CT) with the four of the women's heptathlon events, followed by half of the men's decathlon events at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony is tentatively set for Saturday at 5:05 p.m.
The event is free to the public. Live results, daily recaps, daily photos and video highlights can be found on the Southern Conference website, www.SoConSports.com.
Seniors Heather Conarroe, Sarah Cline and Lauren Childs led the Wildcat women, ranked in the top 20 in the SoCon heading into the championships. Conarroe has the sixth-best performance in the league this season, a time of 17:44.59 from the Duke Invite, and Cline is right behind in eighth with a time of 17:51.21 from the same meet. Childs' time of 17:56.12, also from the Duke Invite, ranks 10th-best in the league.
Sophomore Cara Wilck is also ranked in the top 20 in the league behind a 20th-best time of 12:54.50 in the steeplechase from the JCSU Invitational.
This marks the 87th annual Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the men and the 25th annual for the women. It will be the first time Samford will serve as host for the event.
Last season, Appalachian State claimed its seventh men's title since 2001 while Western Carolina took home the women's championship. Appalachian State has won 17 men's titles, the most in SoCon history, and will be looking to add to it this year. The Catamount women will be seeking their third title in four years and seventh overall.
