Cardinals win 5 events at Huskie Open

DEKALB, Ill. (Apr. 23, 2011)--
The North Central College women's track & field squad recorded two provisional qualifiers and won five events on Saturday at the Northern Illinois University Huskie Open.

Melissa Savino won the high jump with a provisional qualifying clearance of 5 feet, 5 inches while Michelle Criscione was third after with a jump of 5' 1". Savino additionally placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.53) and teamed up with Lauren Brightmore, Monique DeCap and Kayla Murphy to win the 4x100-meter relay in 49.64.

Brightmore added her name to the national list in the 400-meter dash, clocking a provisional qualifying time of 57.19 to win the event. Amanda Laesch prevailed in the 1,500-meters, finishing in 4:40.36 while Brianna Tolliver and Kristine Zizis placed one-two in the javelin throw. Tolliver won the event with a toss of 125' 10" while Zizis was runner-up with a throw of 111' 10".

The 11th-ranked Cardinals additionally tallied third place finishes from Lisa Sharp in the pole vault (10' 0") and the 4x400-meter relay squad (4:17.06) of Sarah Bikulcius, Alicia DeGrado, Linnea Higgins and Alicia Zimmerman.

No team scores were kept at the meet. North Central returns to action on Friday, making the short trip down Chicago Avenue to Lisle, Ill. for the Benedictine University Invitational.
