Seniors Conarroe, Cline and Childs Lead Women's Track at SoCon Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Seniors Heather Conarroe, Sarah Cline and Lauren Childs turned in a trio of top-10 performances to lead the Davidson Wildcats as competition concluded at the 2011 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Conarroe led Davidson on the first day of competition with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000 meters with a time of 38:06.48. Cline also scored for the Wildcats, finishing eighth with a time of 18:14.65 in the 5,000 meters Saturday.

Childs finished just outside the scoring and immediately behind Cline in the 5,000, turning in a ninth-place time of 18:36.77. Conarroe was 15th in the event with a time of 18:55.56, and sophomore Natalie Atabek (21st, 19:12.19) and junior Alyssa Moudy (38th, 22:13.87) also ran in the event.

Freshman Megan Mavity nearly cracked the top 10 with an 11th-place finish in the 10,000 meters (38:38.18), while Atabek crossed the line in 39:38.55 and freshman Alexandra Horst finished in 41:19.11.

Sophomore Cara Wilck competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 12:15.92, and junior Brooke Senken led Davidson in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.08 and also competed in the 800-meter run. Junior Jane Gay led a trio of 'Cats runners in the 800 meters (2:25.27) and placed 25th with a time of 5:09.60 in the 1,500 meters. Freshman Maggie Rickard finished 21st in the 1,500 meters (5:04.58), and junior Haley Holway (28th, 5:15.99), junior Anna Armistead (29th, 5:16.66) and sophomore Cara Wilck (31st, 5:26.77) also competed in the event.

The Appalachian State men and women both won team titles at the 2011 SoCon Championships. The title was the eighth for the Mountaineer men since 2001 and 18th overall, and the 16th women's title for the women, both which are the most titles in SoCon history.
