Day One Results
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Manhattan College men's and women's track & field teams are both in second place, but within striking distance, after the first day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Championships from the Rider University Track & Field Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Jasper men trail Rider 78-57, while the Manhattan women's team is 10 points behind Saint Peter's, 62-52.
Malin Olsson (Malmo, Sweden) set a meet record of 5.92 meters (19 feet, 5¼ inches) in the women's long jump, as Manhattan scored 26 points in the event. Kristi Krull (Tallin, Estonia) was third (5.23 m, 17'2), while Katelyn Savage (North Haledon, N.J.) placed fourth (5.18 m, 17'0). Megan Tice (Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Andrea Nyback (Koping, Sweden) both jumped 4.97 m (16'3¾), which put them in sixth and seventh place. Nyback then added eight points with a second-place finish in the javelin throw (34.28 m, 112'6).
Most of the running events will be held on Sunday, but the 4 x 800 meter relay took place on Saturday, and Manhattan's quartet of Meghan Hayes (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden), Emmy Koskinen (Sodertalje, Sweden) and Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) grabbed second place with a time of 9:24.94.
Two Manhattan men secured first-place finishes on Saturday. In the 10,000 meters, Tobias Lundgren (Alta, Sweden) posted a time of 31:33.25 to win the gold by a little more than three seconds. Lundgren will run the 5000 meters on Sunday. The Jaspers' other winner was Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) in the hammer throw. Ewald's toss of 56.24 m (184'6) was more than five meters further than the second place finisher's mark. He later finished fourth in the javelin throw (53.20 m, 174'6). Teammate Andrew Trass (River Dell, N.J.) took second in the event with a mark of 58.60 m (192'3).
In the men's long jump, the Jaspers picked up 15 points, as Albert Johnson III (Painted Post, N.Y.), Dan Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) and Felix Siljeback-Larsen (Vasteras, Sweden) went 2-3-6. Johnson leaped 7.04 m (23'1¼), Duffy posted a mark of 6.85 m (22'5¾) and Siljeback-Larsen jumped 6.50 m (21'4). Manhattan also gained six points with a third-place finish in the 4 x 800 meter relay. The team of Kevin D'Emic (Rockaway Point, N.Y.), Thomas Arias (Gaithersburg, Md.), Nick Italiano (New York, N.Y.) and John Gaffney (Rutherford, N.J.) recorded a time of 7:51.20.
The MAAC Championships conclude on Sunday afternoon. Field events get underway with the men's high jump, women's triple jump and men's shot put at 11 a.m. The women's 4 x 100 meter relay starts the program on the track at 12 p.m.
