June 2, 2011 - North Central College student-athlete Dan Kerley has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Five Men's Cross Country and Track and Field Team (College Division), as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program is designed to recognize student-athletes for combining academic and athletic success. In order to be eligible, nominees must have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) in addition to their athletic credentials. The nominations are then voted upon by the CoSIDA membership.

The College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, community college and Canadian institutions. District Five encompasses the states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin, in addition to the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.

Kerley, a psychology major, competed in three national-championship events this season. He was an All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, All-Midwest Regional and United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic selection in cross country, competing on North Central's team which finished second at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Kerley qualified for the Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 5,000-meter run, placing 11th, and also qualified for the Division III Outdoor Championships in the 10,000-meter run. Kerley finished fifth in the 10,000 at the outdoor meet, earning his first Division III All-America honors.

Kerley is the only CCIW representative on the All-District First Team. Augustana College's Mike Tisza was voted to the Second Team.

Kerley is the 27th North Central student-athlete to receive Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA. By virtue of his selection to the First Team, Kerley is eligible for selection to the 2011 College Division Academic All-America Team, which will be released June 21.
