Quirke Finishes 15th In Discus Throw at NCAA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships got underway at Drake University's Drake Stadium on Wednesday night, and Manhattan College junior Colin Quirke (Los Gatos, Calif.) was in action in the final of the men's discus throw.  Quirke finished 15th out of 24 competitors in the event with a toss of 53.62 meters (175 feet, 11 inches).

After a foul on his first attempt, Quirke's second throw was his best.  However, he missed out on the finals by just over a meter.  Texas Tech sophomore Julian Wruck won the NCAA title with a distance of 61.81 m (202'9).

This marked Quirke's first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, and he became the first Jasper to qualify for Nationals since Milan Jotanovic (shot put) and Seid Mujanovic (hammer throw) in 2009.
