Pompey Opens Season With First-Place Showing

Pompey Wins 400 Meters at National Club Championships

NEW YORK - Former Manhattan College star Aliann Pompey took the gold medal in the women's 400 meters at the USATF National Club Track & Field Championships at Icahn Stadium on Saturday.  Representing the Shore Athletic Club, Pompey crossed the line in 51.66 seconds, her best time of the year and just shy of her own meet record.

Pompey also ran the third leg on Shore AC's sprint medley relay squad.  The quartet won a bronze medal in the event, posting a time of 4:05.01.  Pompey, the 2000 NCAA indoor champion in the 400 meters, will represent Guyana at both the World Championships and Pan American Games later this year.

Also representing Shore AC at the meet was fellow Manhattan alum Kelton CumberbatchCumberbatch placed seventh in his specialty, the 400 meter hurdles (52.52), and ran the second leg on the bronze medal-winning 4x400 meter relay squad that finished in a time of 3:12.99.
