Men's Track & Field Welcomes New Class For 2011-12 Season

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's track and field program has announced that 35 student-athletes will join the program for the 2011-12 school year. In all, the newcomers come from 14 state and two foreign countries and will vie for spots on the team beginning this fall.

Rutger Admirand – Mountain Lakes H.S., N.J.
Third at the New Jersey Meet of Champions in the 800 with a best of 1:51.45.

Nick Athanasopoulos – Manadnock Regional H.S., N.H.
State Champion in the decathlon with best of 6394, No. 6 in the U.S. He was also a state champion in the long jump and triple jump.

Jeff Baum – Shrewsbury, Mass.
Was the top sprinter in his district.

Sam Belcher – Deerfield Academy, Mass.
NEPSTA champion in cross country and track with a best of 8:47 for 3,000 meters and 15:15 for 5,000 meters.

Montez Blair – Timber Creek H.S., N.J., Naval Academy/Iowa Western C.C.
A transfer from Navy and Iowa Western C.C., he was a community college All-American in the high jump with a 7-0 1/2 best. He also jumped 48-9 in the triple jump and 23-3 in the long jump.

Jesse Braun – Brunswick H.S, Ohio
Star thrower with best of 58-8 in the shot put, 183-5 in the discus and 22-2 in the long jump. He also could become a star hammer thrower.

Tommy Butler – F.S.Key H.S., Md., Monmouth Univ.
Transfer from Monmouth, he was a state high jump champion at 6-10 3/4 and was an IC4A qualifier.

Tim Campbell – Calhoun, N.Y.
Has a best of 4:23 for the mile in high school.

Han Wei Chew – Raffles College, Singapore, Malaysia
Strong horizontal jumper with bests of 22-8 and 46-6.

Hong Cho – Wissahickon H.S., Pa.
State champion in the 800 with a best of 1:50.41, he also ran a 47.7 relay split at Penn Relays.

Tyler Eustance – Hilton, N.Y.
A solid distance runner with a best of 9:27.45 for two miles.

Zinzan Fern – Hawera, New Zealand
Very good jumper with bests of 22-8 and 46-10.

Zach Flood – Bay Port H.S., N.Y.
He was all-State as a junior in 400 at 49.39 before missing his senior year to injury.

Ross Gitlin – Heschel, N.Y.
An 800 runner whose HS didn't have a track team.

Jon Groton – Chaminade, N.Y. – Univ. of Delaware
Transfer from Delaware was an all-State sprinter in high school with a best of 49.14.

Jon Hanninen – Manadnock H.S., N.H.
Multi-talented hurdler 14.72, jumper, sprinter (1:23.67 in 600m), helped lead team to state championship.

Jordan Harris – Haddonfield Memorial H.S., N.J.
Ran 14.37 in the high hurdles as a junior placing in the All-Group meet. Has also ran 54.75 in the 400 hurdles. Lead his team to a state championship

Ryan Hobson – Mid Pacific, Hawaii
State medalist in the 800 and 1,500 meters.

Kieran Kinnare – Ipswich, Mass.
State placer in the two mile at 9:21.96. He ranked 10th in the U.S. in the steeplechase at 6:09 and was an All-American.

David Melly – Newton South, Mass.
Was a state placer in the two mile at 9:20.11. He will also do the steeplechase.

Shawn Miles, North Salem, N.Y.
Is a 400 runner with one year of track.

Matt Mitchell – Mason HS, Ohio
Mitchell was a top vaulter at 15-0. He missed senior year to injury.

Steven Mozia – Hackensack H.S., N.J.
An All-American thrower with bests of 63-8 in the shot put and 187-11 in discus.

Francisco Olloqui – Gardena Serra H.S., Calif.
An All-American 400 runner with a best of 47.98. He ran on a national championship 4x400 team that ran 3:08.

Doug Patson – Jesuit, Texas
Has a best of 1:56.6 for 800 meters.

Calvin Patten – Alexander, N.Y.
Cross country runner with great potential.

Stephen Pawlak – Milton Academy, Mass.
The NEPSTA champion in vault with a best of 13-8.

Jon Phillips – Thomas Jefferson, Va.
Solid mid-distance runner at 4:25/9:33.

Ben Potts – Haddonfield Memorial H.S., N.J.
Has great range from 1:53 in 800 to 9:18 in the two-mile. State group champion.

Isaac Qureshi – Lewisville, Flower Mound, Texas
Solid mid-distance runner with best of 4:21 in the mile.

Keith Rayburn – North Monterey H.S., Calif.
A top vaulter from northern California with a best of 15-7.

Will Reis – Cooperstown, N.Y.
Section champion in 800 with a best of 1:59.

Javier Rodriquez – Belen Jesuit, Fla.
Very good sprinter with best of 10.87. He Will also play football at Cornell.

Deon Thomas – Bishop O'Connell, D.C.
Quickly developing sprinter with best of 11.17.

David Weinstein – Riverdale, N.Y.
Has a best of 184-1 in the javelin from junior year.
